What is Arusi?“Arusi” is Kiswahili for “marriage celebration.” It is an experience designed for Christian marriages. Arusi is an opportunity to discover ways your marriage is part of God’s plan, not just for yourselves but also for the community.
Revise your mission statement as a couple so to make your marriage an instrument of God’s love.
Recreate romance and rekindle the fire and passion of your marriage.
Reconcile broken promises and broken dreams and begin anew.
Renew your wedding vows and recommit to a God-centered marriage with a deeper spirit of Primacy, Empowerment, Protection, and Prayer.
Who Should Attend?
The Arusi Marriage Retreat is an experience for Christian married couples who want to deepen their spirituality as a couple. You don’t have to have a perfect marriage (no one does). But, you must have a desire for commitment and want to keep that commitment for the glory of God.
Leadership DevelopmentExperience dynamic, effective processes for small faith sharing groups of married couples, while enriching your marriage in comfortable surroundings. Developed by pioneers in marriage ministry with African Americans, the Arusi ministry design strengthens marriages, protects family life and fosters a vision for building strong communities. Processes you will learn:
Effective communication skills
Like to like ministry with married couple
Forming a marriage ministry at your church
Andrew and Terri Lyke were married in 1975 and have been leaders in Christian marriage preparation, education and enrichment since 1982. They have served thousands of married couples through their programs. They have nationally presented keynote addresses, workshops, retreats and seminars on Marriage and Family issues to church, community and business audiences. The Lykes are the designers of the Arusi Retreat, which they have presented across the United States. They are national trainers of curricula used in the Healthy Marriage Initiative, i.e., FOCCUS and Exploring Relationships and Marriage with Fragile Families. They have written articles for local and national publications on Christian Married Life. The Lykes are a regular feature on American Catholic Radio’s weekly segment “Marriage Moment.” In September 2009 they were summoned by the Pontifical Council for the Family to travel to Rome, Italy to consult in the planning for an International Conference for the Family. Later that same month they were signatories of the Marriage Proclamation, signed at the historic Emancipation Tree on the campus of Hampton University in Virginia.
